The video I watched is title “Toddler Signing in ASL” and it’s about a mother who is constantly trying to teach her daughter how to sign in any situation. There were many, many words used to teach the toddler in different ways. The mother used many tools to teach her daughter such as letter magnets, books, physical objects, buildings, swinging set, smelling to identify things, TV, and computer programs. The toddler is almost 2 years old and it’s fascinating to see how much of vocabulary she displayed in the video. The communication was mainly between the toddler and her mother, sometimes her grandma as well.
Nancy Rourke, the painter of Deaf Culture: Unity of Global Signing, was born deaf and grew up in a world of oralism (Northen, Spindel). Oralism is when someone teaches a deaf person how to read lips and talk instead of teaching them to sign (Oralism). Rourke’s parents did not know she was deaf until she was about six years old but quit in 1986 to become a graphic designer. The story of Lynn Spradley’s journey is for every parent who believes that their child isn’t normal. I learned a great deal about what it truly means to be deaf from this book. Reading this story brought out much emotion as the story progressed. Lynn’s parents Tom and Louise reaction of every parent’s worst thought when having a child. Everyone believes that there child is going to be healthy and fully functioning ready to be a part of the world.
Unbroken, a novel written by Laura Hillenbrand, outlines the horrors of being captured by Japanese troops during the Second World War. Because of the ethics that the Japanese people had, the Geneva Convention was hardly ever followed, and the captives were rarely ever treated well. The Red Cross was blatantly lied to, meaning that to the outside world, the Japanese Prison Camps were treating their husbands and sons well. On the interior, however, it was apparent that the prisoners had to do whatever it would take to survive. Men stole goods, communicated in many ways, and even had ploys to either kill camp officials, or to even run away.

That year I had only gotten one B, and the rest were all straight A’s. This year, I am in algebra and Level One ILA as well. My stronger point in my whole knowledge is my math skills and my memory. I was upset for some time, considering dropping the course altogether, but after some scrutiny, I acknowledged that giving up would not solve my problems, only allow them to follow me into my college career. My goal is to be a chemical engineer, and if I thought I could do that without understanding calculus, I would never get to live my dream. I took the failing grade as a motivation to do better next time; I put more effort into studying and practicing, even when work was not assigned, and I was miraculously able to earn an A for my semester grade, and a passing score on my AP exam. As cliche as it may sound, the failure helped me by motivating me.
How many parents wish they understood why or what their crying toddler wanted? Communication with infants and toddlers is challenging, especially those with hearing problems. Around the world, many parents have difficulty communicating with their children. With the use of sign language, it makes this process easier for the parent and child to communicate regardless of their hearing ability. All children should learn sign language as an early way to communicate.
My experiences in English three so far have been very satisfying. I learned many things that I wouldn’t have if I had taken a different class or had another teacher. I learned a lot of morals from stories or movies watched like “Goodnight and Good Luck.” I learned from “The Crucible” that doing the right thing doesn’t always involve being truthful in certain circumstances if you care about someone and want to keep them safe. For example, when Elizabeth had to choose between telling the judge that her husband was unfaithful to her by having an affair with Abigail Williams, or lying to save him from judgment by the town and everyone in the courtroom.
and I managed to pass the class with a B. My weakness this year was probably not having enough sleep. I get cranky when I don’t get enough sleep, and I realized I can’t focus when I’m in class. My strength this year was probably becoming more organized and setting a specific schedule for myself everyday. Since I have to work, I need to make specific time for my homework. I also need to have specific time to shower and get ready for school in the morning.
Sign language is a course that many schools do not offer as an elective or a foreign language credit. The assistant principal of Seton High School, Susan Hollenbach, explained that many smaller and private schools are not able to offer Sign Language as a course because they are unable to find the staffing and resources for the class. School size and student interest is a big factor in deciding what courses will be created because all the electives and languages are student-driven. This means that if more students show interest in taking ASL courses, it is more possible for it to become a class. Also, the administration has to decide whether or not the certain course will take away from other classes and possibly diminish the class size of another class which
