1. The democratic way of decision making is advantageous because the people can elect their leaders and it encourages basic human rights and freedoms. Electing a leader is beneficial for the people because citizens can choose a leader that will serve the people and value their basic rights and needs. For instance, the Canadian Government is lead by elected officials who listen to the needs of the people and act accordingly, like the legalization of Marijuana. This type of decision making values basic human rights and freedoms. Meaning, citizens in a democratic society will have mobility rights, legal rights, language rights, the freedom of speech, religion and much more. This can be seen in democratic countries like Canada where citizens can express themselves in any way they please without fear of being arrested or worse. Based on the movie, “V for Vendetta”, people should have equality rights, mobility rights, fundamental freedoms, legal rights, language rights and democratic rights because chaos will ensue and oppressive governments do not last long. Once citizens realize the advantages of their basic rights, they tend to cause chaotic events. In the movie, people are vandalizing buildings and robbing stores in the name of the revolution. In Tiananmen Square, a protest went violent when huge tanks started firing at people and the police were killing and arresting the protesters. Oppressive governments also last for a short period of time because of the obstruction of the citizen’s basic human rights. Without their rights, people will begin fighting for it, which results in the government being overthrown. The fascist government of Great Britain was overthrown by V in the movie. There was also a revolution in Tunisia with a similar situation where the country was ruled by an oppressive authoritarian government and the citizens overthrew it.
