Valley City State University Memorandum TO: Jodi Shorma, Professor FROM: Chelsey Olauson, Student DATE: January 18, 2017 RE: Memo Report Assignment This report provides three ways the VCSU website (vcsu.edu) supports its mission statement. The VCSU Mission Statement is "Through flexible, accessible, and innovative baccalaureate and master's programs, VCSU prepares students to succeed as educators, leaders, and engaged citizens in an increasingly complex and diverse society." Included in the main focus is the website’s innovative and user-friendly design, the accessibility of individual program specifics, and finally the simplified complexity that is the website’s strategy.
BACKGROUND Knowing the background of the job of interest not only provides an upper hand but an idea of what type of atmosphere it has been throughout the years. Knowing the history, key individuals, purpose statement and values, and mission statements can sometimes persuade applicants to apply for a job with the institution. Encountering this information has become much easier with the use of the internet and search engines. History “Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University were first founded as land-grant colleges in 1876,” years later the A&M system was established in 1948 by the Texas Legislature.
In Session 1, you were asked to read CCU’s Strategic Objectives. Review the strategic objectives again in light of what we have talked about thus far in the course. Identify two of the strategic objectives that reflect a Biblical, or Christian, Worldview and explain how you see the elements of the worldview exemplified. “Teach students to trust the Bible, live holy lives and be evangelists.” (Strategic Objectives at Colorado Christian University, n.d.)
The Capstone Center for Student Success provides advising and support for students who may need additional educational assistance. The goal of the Capstone Center is to be able to help student transition to UA smoothly. Director of the Capstone Center for Student Success, Mr. Smith has been committed to give the resources and the support for his students to be successful. Focusing on students who may struggle to be a freshman at UA based on their GPA, ACT or SAT, and high school class rank. Building a relationship, students feel comfortable communicating family, financial, and academic issues.
Community colleges and the American dream The American dream, is dreamt by many, but achieved by few. The road to prosperity and success is tough, but with hard work and dedication, the dream is soon to become reality. In many cases, people plant their seed in a community college close to home; where they’re able to stay with their family, while keeping the American dream alive. Personally, I believe Community colleges benefit in many ways like; saving you money, offering more time to decide your future and it allows your voice to be heard.
Big Sun Athletic Scholarship “Push yourself because no one else is going to do it for you.” I disagree with this quote because I have learned that in life we can all push each other if we work together. Athletics have always been a major role in my life. Many people in my family are huge into sports, so from day one I was always expected to be an athlete. I was put into a wide range of different sports, and I’m glad, because they all made me stronger and more mature.
My plan is to attend a four year university full time at University of Washington Bothell and major in computer science field because I am passionate about working with technology, and I want to understand how we can continue to draw knowledge from it. In addition, I plan to attend graduate school while working in the computer science field after I finished with my undergraduate school. I want to be able to give back to the society for all the resources it provided me to reach this point in my education and continue working toward fulfilling my life goals. The Intro to Computer Science class at Roosevelt is helping me understand what it takes to be a computer science major student. One thing I learned from the class is that success comes from patience and effort.
Finding the college that was right for me was a daunting experience. The main reason I enrolled in my current school, Felician University, was because of the academic and athletic scholarships I was offered. Little did I know, my educational experience would be so much richer than academics and athletics; it has been one of integral personal and academic development. Over the last four years, I have been able to go out of my comfort zone and become a leader in my community. When I first became a member of my university’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) during my sophomore year, I started to feel the need to support other students and strive to make my community a better place.
Marines have been trained and disciplined to make sure the mission is accomplished in a timely and professional manner with no mistakes or casualties. Leaders ensure every Marine is treated with respect with dignity in order for the morale to be at its peak and Marines would enthusiastically take the initiative to do tasks on their own without waiting for orders. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Sergeant Major Black, once said “Mission first, Marines always,” in 2019 to instill the idea in all leaders to ensure mission accomplishment and Marines are treated well. “Mission first, Marines always” is what embodies the Marine Corps commitment on accomplishing each task while making sure the welfare of the Marines are cared for.
Since leaving Lynchburg, I have done my best to reflect on how my impetuous actions paused my academic career, and placed my professional career in jeopardy. If I were to be readmitted to Lynchburg College, my plan for success includes becoming more involved on campus, and ensuring that I achieve at least a 3.5 GPA for the remainder of my undergraduate duration.
In a nutshell, I am an energetic and committed individual who strives by the quote "great things can be achieved by perseverance and the right attitude". I have a large appetite to learn and believe in the collective growth of self and others. Once I graduate from the program, I desire to take up opportunities in IT and AI. A strategist is one who balances market dynamics with razor -sharp analytical skills that are complemented by an intuitive understanding of the market and a strong sense of curiosity.
In my previous blog (My 2018 Reading Goals) , I mentioned that one of my reading goal this year is to finish 50 books. To be able to achieve it, I plan to finish at least one book per week. Therefore, I prepared a list of books that I would be read - or better known as TBR (to-be-read) in the book community. And in this month, I have prepared six books in my January TBR.
My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience. I come from a low-income family in Oakland, California. The economic barrier that has restricted my family has prevented us from moving out from where we live.
My goals have changed a lot over the last couple of years. Bouncing back and forth between majors and deciding if I even want to be taking college classes right now. I kept asking myself why I should struggle with hard classes when I have a good job right now. But then I stopped and repeated “good job right now.” My job as a twenty year old might support me right now but is it going to support me in ten or fifteen years when I’m trying to buy a house and support my family?
Personal Statement Describe several personal and professional goals you would like to achieve in the next five years, including why these goals are important to you. Goals are what keep us motivated to keep going and doing better than the day before. It is our goals that help us to keep pushing forward and be the best version of ourselves everyday. I have many professional and personal goals for myself.
