As the Chief Executive Office of VW, I would ensure that the business establishes responsible business practice, while providing an understanding of the social and ethical dimensions of business operations to all employees and shareholders. My five personal core values; dependability, entrepreneurial spirit, commitment, responsibility and leadership, as well as the ethical philosophy of Kantianism will assist in ensuring that the approached VW took would be very different under my command. Firstly, as the CEO of VW, I would ensure that our marketing campaign was not solely focused on advertising the low emissions the cars produced. With this in place, there won’t really be a need to introduce the ‘defeat device’, or software, in the diesel engines. This will then eliminate the need to switch the cars to ‘safety mode’ to alter the performance accordingly to improve the results. The code of ethics will assist in detecting and preventing improper conduct and promoting responsible practices to the organization’s ethical obligations. This will provide assurances of support for the policies from the head of the organisation, display practical guidance on what is expected regarding ethical issues within the business and will also stress the consequences of ethical misconduct in the business. The values of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit are being examined in this process, as I will inspire others to become the best version of themselves while being able to lead or inform certain people/employees on what is right or wrong.
