It is important for Florida teachers to know the Code of Ethics and Principles for many reasons. It is a requirement of the state to know the code, but it is also beneficial for the teachers to know it as well. There are Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAPs) that all pre-professional teachers are required to know by the state. All certified education programs are required to teach them. Ethics is one of the FEAPs, so the code of ethics must be taught by every education program and each education student must be familiar with it. There are many examples of common sense that teachers must use at all times. Teachers are held to a higher level of conduct, and if they are not aware of the ethical code, may carelessly break it and risk losing their certificate. Establishes positive interactions in the learning environment that uses incentives and consequences for students (FEAPs). This FEAP demonstrates understanding of fulfilling expected obligations to students. This means that the teacher cares for every student regardless of background or behavior. The teacher will strive to maintain truth and not mislead students. Every student has a right to equal access of education (FEAPs).
FEAP 2.b. Establishes positive interactions between the teacher and student that are focused upon learning (FEAPs). This means that the teacher will always strive to help all students improve and grow. The teacher will treat all students with dignity and respect as well and will not take advantage of anyone (FEAPs). FEAP 2.c. Varies communication (both verbal and nonverbal) according to the nature and needs of individuals (FEAPs). This means that teachers will uphold the institution of the school. The pre-professional teacher recognizes the need for effective communication in the classroom and is in the process of acquiring techniques which she/he will use in the classroom.
