TPE 8: Learning about Students
1. Summarize this TPE Teachers must use development patterns and theories to inform instruction. They must access students' knowledge and abilities by using "formal and informal methods" identifying special needs (CTC, 2013, p. 15). They must learn about their students goals, life and experiences, while collaborating with parents to support student needs. 2. Did the teacher you observed meet the expectations of this TPE? Why or why not? I observed this TPE being met by the teacher changing students seating arrangements as needed, so they could not be distracted and have the best opportunity to learn. She held the students to high standards expecting all trash off the floor and seats pushed in at all times. She used her token economy to motivate these actions and it worked relatively well. If the students did not do a homework assignment or were misbehaving, she used the negative reinforcement of taking away recess so students would correct their behavior. Mrs. A met every student at the door before class and asked how their day was so far. She met parents every day after school to talk about misbehavior or things to support their child. She built a rapport with the parents such that she shows respect
