Before it was known as Verizon Wireless, it was Bell Atlantic, a small company that had just broken away from AT&T. Verizon Wireless has now expanded to the massive company everyone has heard of, which features over 176,800 employees. The number of employees is down from the 235,000 employees in 2007, but that number is climbing. (Statistica 1/12/15) At the head of all the employees are Daniel S. Mead, President and CEO; Lowell C. The company originated as a joint venture -when companies work together for a long time- with Bell Atlantic, an American telecommunications firm, which would soon become Verizon Communications. Verizon Wireless’ mission statement is, “At Verizon Wireless, we are committed to offering our customers the most reliable service on the nation's best wireless voice and data network, and providing accessible products and services that meet the communication needs of our customers with disabilities. Verizon Wireless provides a wide range of innovative solutions and technologies that increase accessibility to its products and services.” The company mainly focuses on the cellular phone market, but they also provide television services, home phone, and wireless internet services. They provide the cellular network for wireless phones, they do not produce the actual phones. Verizon Wireless used Paul Marcarelli, or the “Can you hear me now?” guy, from 2002 to 2009- his commercials featured him on a phone anywhere and everywhere. After 2 years of retirement, when Verizon released the new iPhone 4 in 2011, they brought back Paul Marcarelli, in the commercial he answered the iPhone and said one line- “Yes, I can hear you now.”(Wikipedia Verizon, …show more content…

Verizon receives a 3.5 rating from DARS-this means that Verizon is seen as “a good dividend-paying stock” where it stands right now.(DARS Rating System, 1/8/15) The dividend payments are consistent and reliable, rated at a 4.5, so it is seen as a safe stock to buy and hold on to in the future payouts. Verizon’s rank is above the technology average ranking for all of the DARS rankings except relative strength, where it is 3.0 and the average is 3.1.(Dividend, 1/5/15) Verizon is a growing company, over the four quarters, their earnings and revenue have increased, so that is a good sign for investors.
