Competitive video gaming is a sport. Sport is defined as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment" (Oxford). Both sport and video gaming require training and practice to compete on a high scale level. Both video gaming and sports involve team work and team bonding. In video games and sports individuals or teams compete against one and another for victory. Both video game and sport require a high amount of skill on the physical and mental level. Sports do not always have to be played on a field or court, for example: Fishing is considered a sport, as it requires an individual to be fine-tuned in strategy. For example, the numerous examples I implement of the similarities between sport and eSport back the conclusion that competitive video gaming is a sport "Both sport and video gaming require training and practice to compete on a high scale level. Both video gaming and sports involve team work and team bonding" (Morano). The argument is strong because the comparison premises are true making the conclusion true, the premises compliments the conclusion. The argument proposed in this paper that competitive video gaming is a sport is also supported by the contrast I have made between activities other than sports that require preparation such as chess "Competitive gaming and its preparation is different from the practice of a chess player as it involves both physical training, mental training, and communication training" (Morano). "Nutrition plays into this, and esports athletes have requirements that are not being met by most traditional sports supplements and nutritional products. Sugar levels in the bloodstream, for example, present a unique challenge for endurance. Many sports supplements aren 't properly balanced to give long-lasting energy; they will provide a fast boost, followed by the devastating fast crash" (Grumann). The argument I present is sound as proved by the fact that preparation for eSport athletes is different than that of a chess player even in terms of a diet.
