In the story The Odyssey the main character Odysseus, is a bad leader because he likes to blame other people for his own mistakes, he is cocky, and he does not learn from his mistakes The first reason why Odysseus is a bad leader is because he blames other people for his mistakes. For example in the text, it says “O’ Father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, you made me sleep away this day of mischief!”(686) This quotation shows that Odysseus is a scapegoater.

Throughout his entire career as an artist, he only sold one painting. He lived in poverty, and suffered from severe malnourishment and sleep deprivation. All of his sufferings sent him spiraling into “fits of madness and lucidity,” which ultimately placed him the Saint-Remy institution after cutting off his own earlobe in attempts to murder his friend and fellow artist, Gaugin (“Van Gogh Gallery”). Van Gogh’s anguish heavily influenced his art. His “fusion of form and content is powerful; dramatic, lyrically rhythmic, imaginative, and emotional,” because he was “completely absorbed in the effort to explain either his struggle against madness or his comprehension of the spiritual essence of man and nature” (“Van Gogh Gallery”).
Vincent Van Gogh, the artist of the above painting titled Yellow House or House in Arles was born March 30, 1853 in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands. Van Gogh led the Post-Impressionism movement (approximately 1886-1905) alongside Paul Cezanne, Paul Gauguin and Georges Seurat. Van Gogh’s mother was also an artist and her fondness for nature, drawing and watercolors would later be prevalent in Van Gogh’s works. Van Gogh is also known for going to a brothel in Arles, offering his ear to a prostitute named Rachel and asking her to “keep this object carefully.” Van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a pistol on July 27, 1890 and then died in his brother’s arm on July 29, 1890.

He enjoyed the work of Jean-François Miller, whose paintings were pleasant and neat. One of my favorite paintings by Vincent would have to be The Garden of Doctor Gachet. It was done in 1890. It has been said that Gogh painted in several times, but only on his final copy did he make an attempt to stylize the forms and outline the shapes of the plants. The red cottage in the back of the painting makes you wonder who it belongs to and what is in there.

Due to this piece being on a canvas, van Gogh understood the importance of creating effects to enhance the painting. Van Gogh used detail to set this piece aside from others. In the painting, you can see individual details for each structure in the village, the twists and winds of the tree, the rolling mountains and the beauty of the sky. From the brushstrokes to the softening of colors to set the tone, van Gogh ultimately wished to demonstrate “ethereal and dreamlike” (Van Gogh) Van Gogh used his memories and imagination to help paint the picture. Throughout his life, he remained poor and unknown despite the fact of being a very talented artist. He did not become absolutely famous until after his death. According to Nathalie Heinich (1996) in her book “The Glory of Van Gogh”, “But it is not enough to tell how the Van Gogh who died in 1890 became the Van Gogh celebrated in the 1990s.” (pg. 1). It is not evident as to why he became extremely famous after his death but it is a known fact.
This sale made that one of the most valuable paintings in the history of the world. Many of Andy Warhol’s works have become highly valued piece of art, especially after his death in 1987. Andy Warhol has been a personal favorite artist since I was young, his work was referenced in the movie “The First Wives Club” that I watched with my mother. After watching the film I began to research who Andy Warhol was, and some of the works he had created. I think the bright conflicting colors and the simplicity of the subject matter is intoxicating.
Searching for a painting that really spoke to me was hard, I was searching for quite a while, until I found Bedroom in Arles. There are many things in this painting that would catch a viewer 's eye; the reason the painting caught my eye was because it was much more vibrant and colorful that all the other artworks I saw, that is why it attracted me. “Bedroom in Arles created” in 1888 by the word renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh was painted to represent himself, who he was as a person, and the life he lived. That is what Van Gogh is trying to convey to the viewer in this painting, he did this with the use of vibrant colors, the thick brushstrokes used, the many different and odd parts of this painting, and the texture of the items in the painting. Van Gogh’s use of color, and his bold color choices is what really attracted me to this painting, it stood out like a sore thumb from all the other paintings.
Art is the ability to make others see what you see. People look at a painting, and they depict a myriad of colors that are essentially meaningless. But take a longer look, and the colors will come together to tell a story. Whether it’s a traditional oil painting or graffiti on the side of a building, a voice can be heard with each stroke of the brush. The connection between the artist and the creation bleeds through to the audience like a marker would on paper.

After this, he studied printmaking in Italy with Georgio Morandi from 1952-1953.
