The agency that I choose to evaluate is called Women Against Abuse (WAA) which is situated here in Philadelphia Pa. Women Against Abuse is a non-profit organization that receives funding from the state. The organization provides emergency shelter and safe havens for women and children who are suffering from domestic violence. It was formed to respond to the needs of women in abusive relationships. Women Against Abuse is an organization that serves a diverse population. Many of the women have experienced various forms of abuse that has escaluated to patterns in which such behaviors have worsen over time. Various injuries were seen on these women such as; bruised eyes, bruises throughout the body, strangulation, broken bones or cuts from the pain that they had to endure from their abuser http://www.womenagainstabuse.org/about-us. Two social workers from Philadelphia were outraged by what they had seen and decided to join forces and formed the first domestic violence crisis hotline. They established an emergency shelter by renting a house in the Germantown section of the Philadelphia. Within three years, they expanded their facility and its staff to open a larger facility in West Philadelphia. Currently, the facility can accommodate 100 beds as temporary emergency shelter for women and children. Each year, the shelter operated to a full capacity. Due to the high number of calls, the organization had to turn away request for help. The shelter operates with a staff of: 100 residents, 3 Adult Case Managers, 2 Children’s Case Managers, 1 Case Manager Supervisor, 1 Client Service Director, 1 CSS Supervisor, 2 CSS per shift, 1 Food Service Worker, 2 Maintenance Workers, 1 Overnight Supervisor, 2 Early Childhood Educators, 1 Security Officer, 1 Behavioral Health Supervisor, 1 Therapist and 1 Facilities
