Save money, live better Walmart, we've all heard it. Walmart is an extremely well-known company; everyone has their opinion on them. After watching the video and discussed Walmart in class I have gathered and formed my own opinions on Walmart. There are several shocking facts of what Walmart really is, the criticisms of what Walmart is as a company, along with what is really going on at Walmart from the eyes of an associate. According to what was discussed in class Walmart was founded in 1962 by the deceased Sam Walton. In 2013 Walmart did around $469 billion in sales; making Walmart the 27th largest economy in the world. Employing 1 .4 million people in the US alone, 2.2 million people worldwide. In the 2000’s Walmart became the template firm, businesses that have set superior, standard than everyone, therefore other companies’ model around them. They began the evolution of the barcode, electronic point of sale data collection, real time internet-based transaction, just in time purchasing, also automated distribution centers. Walmart is reprehended for having low wages, to make the most possible profit for the company; which doesn’t go back into the associate’s wallet. They also criticized are having inadequate benefits, showing substandard quality of benefits; at 46% of Walmart employees, children are on state Medicaid or are uninsured. As well as being criticized for driving small businesses out of business, as a result of not being able to compete with Walmart low prices. Finding in fault of breaking workplace rules, that are state mandated. They have also been denounced for having to gender discrimination, discriminating against women and not giving women higher positions, such as management.
