Walt Disney, born in Chicago, Illinois on Dec, 5 1901 was in every sense of the word an Entrepreneur. Born to Elias and Flora Disney, Walt was one of five children. Walt began drawing as a cartoonist when he was very young. Most of his early life was spent in Missouri where he began to paint, draw and even sell his artwork to neighbors and family friends. Even as a child, Walt saw a demand for his services in the entertainment industry. Stuck in Missouri he didn’t have a great of selection of objects in which to portray around him so he enjoyed drawing cartoon images of his neighbor’s horses. After moving to Kansas City when he was 10 he was further introduced to the entertainment industry (Biography.com, 2015). This is where Disney developed his passion for animation and decided to become a full time cartoonist. He started producing and later screening short animation films he dubbed Laugh-o-gram which lead to the development of a company named Laugh-o-gram studios. Due to financial issues his studio was soon closed. The Walt Disney company was started in 1923 with the help of his brother to keep Walt from bankruptcy. After creating a series of short films called “Alice comedies” based off Alice in wonderland, Walt was successful enough to contract ink and paint artist Lillian Bound. After discovering Universal Pictures had trademarked his most lucrative animations at the time, he then realized he had to develop new characters.
