The War of the Worlds takes place in England. H.G. Wells wrote the book in the late 1800s, so many of the actions pertain with that time. During the story, the narrator resides in Woking. Throughout the story, cylinders land in different locations where the Martians stay. The narrator ventures throughout England in the story, due to these Martians. The characters are constantly moving throughout the story because the Martians are attacking. Whether it is heat rays or black smoke, the narrator evacuates areas to avoid conflict. Early in the story, the narrator drops his wife in Leatherhead to be safe with her family. This effects him later in the book as he begins to miss his wife.
