In the reading “Killing Caesar” by Jon Herman the author gives evidence on both sides of the argument is Caesar a tyrant or a hero? Did Caesar deserve his horrific, and bloody killing in front of so many subjects? Caesar did not deserve this he was a hero to all around him. Caesar was a hero because he made sure to put his people above even himself.
He fought many battles for 8 years all to better his country. When he went to war, all he had on his mind was to expand Rome. He didn't think about what people were going through at home. He also didn't think that his friends would betray him when he returned. Caesars army fought big and small battles.

It is crystal clear in all the three documents that Julius Caesar was very selfish who only care about himself and his personal goals. Him doing everything he did showed that he cared a lot for the people that he was going to rule over and made him liked a lot by the people in Rome. Since he was liked so much this was where his flaw came into play. He became very tyrannical and made some people question if he was such a good ruler for them. He was also stubborn during his time around the people that he was around. If he didn’t have these flaws he wouldn’t have had the problem that he had.
Julius Caesar did not govern fairly. I believe this because it seems like war and power were the only things this dictator wanted. For example, in "The rise of Julius Caesar" by Hal Marcovitz, it says "Caesar's ploy was not much of a gamble. His army easily swept aside his enemies, including his one-time ally, Pompey." This states that yes, Caesar was insanely strong and powerful, but getting rid of his one-time ally because he was supposedly in his way shows that he is not governing fair.

There were many different perspectives on what type of leader Julius Caesar was if he was a threat or one of the best things to happen for Rome. At only nineteen, he had his own army and freed the Republic and made himself ruler. He executed many wars throughout his lifetime and “when victorious [he] spared all citizens who sought pardon.” He did this because he wasn’t seeking to kill innocent people. He wanted to have a strong, peaceful empire. His victories allowed him to restore peace to Gallic and Spanish provinces and also to the Alps, which no other roman had been able to do.
Julius Caesar was a political and military leader whose reign marked the beginning of the Roman Empire and the end of the Roman Republic. Caesar did not always follow the law to get the power that he obtained. Caesar once stated, “If you must break the law, do it to seize power; in all other cases, observe it.” If Caesar saw a way to get power, he took the opportunity even if it meant breaching the law.
Was Julius Caesar a villain or a hero? Some people believe he was a villain and some people believe he was a hero. I believe he was a hero because he brought peace and order into Rome, strengthened and expanded Rome, and set up job programs for people and helped the farmers that were migrating. Overall he helped Rome a lot.
Second is that Caesar could be crooked and not care about the people. Lastly the people only want him because of all the people he conquered. Empires never last forever because one person has all the power that’s why there’s not many left. When one person is in charge of an entire civilization there is only one opinion that will play a huge factor for the people living there. A organized government with a congress and senators will help make the right decision and not mess up in way that could cause a war.

Many people believed that he was a hero, but Julius Caesar was a very ambitious dictator and was more of a villain than a hero.
