Imagine being back in high school waiting for your college acceptance letter to finally arrive in your mailbox. You have been waiting for what it feels like an eternity. I was that same exact student. My first choice was West Chester University, and the Academic Development Program (ADP) made it possible to continue my education at one of the finest higher institutions. ADP made me realize that family comes in so many different forms. It comes in so many different shapes and sizes that I would not have comprehended back in high school. Blood does not define who your family is. Wherever I go on campus, I find people that turn into family. The connections that I make at West Chester University allow me to realize how much I appreciate the impact that the staff, and students make on me every single day. The professors are continuously enriching me with their knowledge and lessons as well as the workers at the Lawrence Dining hall.
Going into my sophomore year, I become more involved. West Chester University is liked and respected everywhere, and I wanted to continue this tradition. I joined a club on campus called Student Outreach in Urban Schools (S.O.U.S) . This club opened my eyes to how much you can make a difference in someone’s life. I am happy that I am able to continue on with my education, because I sometimes have that fear that I will not able to pay for certain necessities for my classes. I work on weekends, but that sometimes in not always enough. On the weekends, I live with my mom in a one bedroom apartment on a couch that we struggle to make it week by week to pay the bills or just to go food shopping. Hence, this scholarship allows me to feel a sort of relief and hope that ADP has this opportunity where we can express our feelings and thoughts about West Chester as a
