Lewis and Clark were to first ones to find the Pacific Ocean on their long expedition. Lewis and Clark made an journey from St. Louis, Missouri, to the Rocky mountains ending at the Pacific Ocean. This expedition was on May 14, 1804- September 23, 1806. There was 59 people and 1 dog on the journey. Lewis and Clark we able to discover new things during the discovery. The 3 main accomplishments wer finding the Native Americans, making new maps, and finding new plant and animal species. The first accomplishment was that Lewis and Clark found new plant and animal species. They observed new plants, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and fish. Lewis and Clark discovered 178 new plants species and 122 new animal species. Some examples of plants they discovered were golden currents, bitterroot, wild onion, and cottonwood. The Corps of Discovery or the people that went on the expedition used cottonwood for many thing like making canoes, furniture, and fires. That was one plant that was very helpful to the travelers. The tribes started in Missouri and went along to the Pacific. When the Louisiana Purchase was bought the size of the United States increased and now the land occupies some Native American tribes. Lewis and Clark found many different tribes. Some made their own houses from wood, or skins. Each tribe believed in different things and fought differently. Some tribes didn’t even fight at all and didn’t believe in fighting. The Native Americans helped Lewis and Clark along with their men because they gave them food, shelter, and knowledge about the pathways. They kept them safe going through the land.
