When thinking about the Constitution, people typically think of the national United States constitution that was ratified in 1787 and it is easy to overlook the fact that each state also possesses its own constitution When analyzing the U.S. The Constitution and the Constitution of Georgia, it is apparent that there are many similarities. The first similarity between the documents is the inclusion of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is composed of the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution, originally proposed by James Madison in 1789. The Bill of Rights can be found in Articles 3 through 12 of the U.S. Constitution where it lists the fundamental rights and freedoms that American citizens possess, as well as restricts the power of the …show more content…

The length of Georgia’s Constitution is surprisingly longer due to the detailed policies that it explains. The U.S. The Constitution had eight articles whereas the Georgia Constitution had eleven. Another difference is the length of office that national and Georgia state legislators hold. U.S. Constitution Article I states that, at the national level, Senators are elected for a term of six years and members of the House of Representatives are elected for a term of two years. Article III of the Georgia Constitution states that members of the General Assembly, which includes both the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives, will only hold office for a term of two years. The last point of difference is the process by which amendments are made to each Constitution.
