What Children Create, Do, Say, Think, Feel and Value in Relation to Social Media
Introduction
Once a profile is created, children have full access to personalize their social media page with the tools provided; this includes, but is not limited to uploading photos, and videos. By doing so, children are now able to message, and interact with family, friends, public figures and create new friendships. Children virtually “hang out,” meet new people, flirt, blog, and write diaries, post pictures, art work, share music and videos. A way that children use to open up interactions with strangers of similar interest which are also potential friends that can be kept online or incorporated in real life meetings and interactions. The younger children in the video thought of social media as a general way of communicating often relating to older children and adults only, “Play time for big kids and grownups”, “Teenagers, I think email is too slow for them at that point”[and] “Adults Usually post pictures and stuff”.
