“What does it mean to be well educated” is a book written by Alfie Kohn. The book consist essays from different authors whose their main objectives was to discuss and promote conversations about the challenges that exist in the American school systems. The author has emphasized and encouraged the readers to understand the purpose of schooling and its long term effects. First and foremost, I was surprised by how our school systems are being turn into business institutions due to the fact that school policies are influenced by corporations whose main goal is to make profit educational institutions. The main thesis of the book was to discover the point of schooling and the type of skills that students develop while they are in high school and how that can shape their thinking about reality. These was demonstrated by providing evidence based on the impact that students experience from standardized testing, grading and evaluations. These three concepts was some important to make decisions on the performance of the students. Teachers and educators have charged students based on how well they meet this criteria.
