Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry The novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor takes place in 1933, in a rural Mississippi. The whites are being prejudice with the blacks by calling them names, hanging then and beating them up. Most blacks are sharecropper and don’t own any land. The live on white folks land and harvest cotton. The black children walk in the red dust everyday to school while the whites have a school that they ride in. There is a church for the whites and a church that is for the blacks. The whites get new stuff while the blacks get the hand me downs. The Logan family has their own land and farm, and even go to school. The only different thing about is the Logan family is black. The Logan family is a black family
