What Mencken is trying to say here is that people in this society don’t really look for freedom to do whatever they want, instead they look for the feeling of safety because without safety you can’t live life to the fullest. What is freedom if you don’t feel safe? Mencken’s quote emphasizes the true meaning of safety and gets you thinking about what it would be life if we didn’t have that.

I believe that freedom means that people can express themselves however they want and that they can make decisions for themselves. I think that this is true because people can choose their religion, have the freedom of speech, and can stand up for what they believe is right. Webster Dictionary defines freedom as a “political right”. To me, freedom is much more than that. Freedom gives me and the people of America the right to do anything we want; it allows us to be ourselves no matter where you come from, or who you are. Unfortunately, America has not always been this way; people of different races were treated like trash on the sidewalk. Frederick Douglass had a first-hand experience to this treatment, and he knew what it was like before America allowed everyone to actually be “free”.

Freedom is being able to pick a leader for your country who you feel is right and will do what is right for you and for all of us. It also means to be able to live the same as everyone else, freely, no matter the color or your race we are all equal. Freedom is not something that should be taken advantage of, using a gun is alright for protection, but when it's used for the wrong actions it is not correct. You have to respect all that is given to you and use what you have for good and not evil.
What Freedom Means to Me To me, freedom is when we can speak, dress, or be different from other people; we are able to do these things without interference from the government. We owe our freedom to the contribution of many things. With these contributes, the present-day America that we know and love then came.
Freedom means the power or right to act, speak, or think without restraint, and the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. Freedom is the correction to do what he/she wants, live life, and eat what he/she wants. How do we live free? We live free by not judging other people’s freedom rights.
