Organisational Structure
Organisation Structure enables the division of labour, understand the patterns of coordination, communication and workflow, this also enables a form of formal power to individuals to drive the organisational activities towards the vision of the organisation. The organisation that we are looking at in this report is one of the most organised and structured sectors, Australian Federal Police(AFP). The organisation is known for its dedication, discipline and specialisation in maintaining the safety of people in Australia. The structure is a true example of top-down hierarchical structure. The functioning of the police depends on different of factors such as political, social, economic and legal setups. The Organisational structure is the most significant aspect of administration. Without proper structuring the administrative efforts will be in ineffective.
The AFP is headed by the Commissioner of Police Andrew Covlin and the organisation is established on three strategic pillars: operations, capacity and capability. The division of labour is also done in alignment to the three pillars, considering the specialisation of each team and their effective way to coordinate with other teams to provide a quality output as in case of this organisation a small mistake could result in loss of life, money and compromise the security of the nation.
In this part of report, we will analyse the organisational structure of AFP and will be focusing on the areas of span of control, the division of labour, coordination of work, decision making and organisation strategy.

They organisation has also established committees to look upon into various aspects of the organisation thereby reducing the involvement of the Commissioner in certain areas of operation and thus giving better space and time for the leader to focus more on the dealing with planning future strategies and operations for the organisation.
The formalised approach in the organisation contributes to the set of rules, guidelines, procedures and standardised behaviour makes the running of organisation self-sustainable related to handling situations and performing duties on a day-to-day basis. The flatness of structure in the organisation is also maintained in an adequate way to communicate effectively and timely with clarity in the information passed from the top management and to improvise on quick action.
