Which type of nut provides the largest amount of energy as measured through calorimetry?
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was to find out which nut provides the largest amount of energy.
Background Research:
The topic for the research is based on macromolecules and calorimetry. Macromolecules are molecules made of subunits. The four subunits are Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins, and Nucleic acids. For this experiment 3 nuts were used, peanuts, almonds, and cashews. These are all types of proteins which makes up the protein subunit for a macromolecule.These catalysts help fuel every chemical reaction. For example in the experiment nuts will be burned to see which nut type will produce the most energy.

Thus the data showed that peanuts had the highest average energy which was 2335 cal/g. The hypothesis was refuted because the almonds produced the least amount of energy, not the most. Within the experiment the almonds only produced 1548 cal/g which was lower than the peanuts and the cashews which were 1771 cal/g. In conclusion the data could have been affected due to the size of the nut, the brand of the nut, and the environment where the nut was burned.
