In his song ‘Touch the Sky’, Kanye writes “After I got my advance I just wanted to shine, Jay's favorite line is “dawg in due time” now he looks at me like “dang dawg you where I am” a hip-hop legend”(West 1). For context, Jay-Z was the biggest rapper of the early 2000s, he and Kanye were great friends, and he effectively took Jay's top spot as the hip-hop king. The line “dawg in due time” is Jay saying that one Kanye will eventually be at the relative same status as him but the next line “Dang dawg you were I am” is Jay and everyone is shocked that Kanye changed the status of himself and Jay almost overnight.
