Selena, quite commonly known as “Queen of Tejano”, left many fans devastated with her assassination in the mid 90’s. Her singing career started at the age of ten when her father, a former musician, produced and managed a band consisting of Selena and her siblings. From this age on, with a many setbacks, Selena’s music became popularly known across the country and in Mexico as well. Among her singing talent she was also an entrepreneur, having her own boutique and salon in Corpus Christi, Texas by the age of 22. Coming from a Latino family, Spanish was not her native language, so to fit in with the Latino community she had to learn to speak and sing all in Spanish. She abided by her own phrase stating, “With a positive attitude, you can be anything you want to be” (“Selena”).
