Who Is To Blame For Romeo And Juliet's Demise?

376 Words2 Pages
Who is to blame for Romeo and Juliet's demise? Unexpectedly, it's Romeo! I believe this because he is impetuous and lacks self control. Act 3, scene 1 of the play exemplifies this behavior when he kills Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, who had challenged Romeo to a duel. Tybalt then pursues Romeo and, after Tybalt declines, Romeo assaults Tybalt without considering the repercussions, killing him and sealing his fate forever. This served as the justification for Romeo's exile, which cost them significant chances for a different resolution. More proof that he was the source of the whole disaster, leading to his exile. However, since Tybalt assaulted him first after killing Mercutio, his actions are justified. There's also the fact that he's an idiot.
