Arguably the most iconic play ever created in history is William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Studied by millions of people and still popular after hundreds of years. The play that was shown to kings and people of the highest positions. Yet we still have so many questions about the play. The most famous question has to be, who was to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Most people seem to believe it was Lady Capulet or Montague. Surprisingly, it isn’t either one of them, instead it is actually Juliet's Nurse. After chasing down Romeo the Nurse tells Juliet, “His name is Romeo, Romeo Montague. He’s the only son of your great enemy.” (I,v,143) There are many things wrong with the Nurse getting Romeo’s name for Juliet. First off, Juliet was already planning on being with Paris and most likely becoming his wife. The Nurse was well aware of this, but still helped Juliet figure out who Romeo was at the party. Secondly, she is going against Lady Capulet's wishes. Her wishes were to have Juliet marry Paris. Lastly, the Nurse told Juliet who Romeo was even though she knew he was a Montague. All of this ultimately is what led to Romeo and Juliet being together in the first place. If the Nurse was reasonable and even the slightest bit loyal to Lady Capulet, she would’ve denied Juliet’s request to go figure out who Romeo was and instead keep Juliet focused on Paris like they had planned in the first …show more content…

This marriage is what led to the death of Romeo and Juliet because it made Juliet have to be loyal to Romeo instead of just marrying Paris. The Nurse speaking to Juliet says, “Then hurry to Friar Lawrence’s cell. There a husband waits to make you a wife.” (II,v,69) There are many things wrong on the Nurses side for her doing this. For instance, she knew Lady Capulet's wishes to make Paris, Juliets’ husband. This means she is going against the person in charge of her. Also, the Nurse knew that Romeo and Juliet are of rival families. Anyone in their right mind would know that this would cause many issues. This decision for the Nurse, knowing all the bad things that could come from it, is ultimately what led to Romeo and Juliet
