Blame is when a person creates the image that somebody besides themselves is at fault for a situation. The quote, ”we live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone or anything for their misery sooner than take the responsibility to own it and make it better,” is from the book It's Not My Fault: The No-Excuse Plan for Overcoming Life's Obstacles by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. People force blame upon others to make themselves appear to be the innocent victim of the situation. They would rather harm someone’s image than take responsibility. I completely agree with the quote, and I believe that it is strongly portrayed in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The presence of multiple, confounding factors in the play ultimately created a perfect storm, leading to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. These factors put blame upon the characters surrounding Romeo and Juliet. One factor to blame is the presence of Juliet’s father, known as Capulet. Capulet forces Juliet into a difficult decision that she cannot handle. In the play, he is set on the marriage of Paris and Juliet, against Juliet’s will. He started a chain reaction between Romeo and Juliet. After Capulet upsets Juliet, she turns to the Friar, who gives her the medication to sleep for two days straight. The town thinks Juliet to be dead, which causes Romeo to commit suicide. When Juliet awakens, she finds that Romeo has killed himself and she decides to do the same. If the Friar had not offered Juliet the medicine, nobody would have believed that she was dead, including Romeo. Juliet and Romeo both go through moments when they believe the other is dead, which pushes them to commit suicide. The two would not had killed themselves if the Friar had not given Juliet the
