Have you ever been in love before, but your feelings are disregarded? That's the feeling I felt after reading this book by someone who was a great pioneer of our time. It took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from social injustice to being in love, and to recognizing the struggle of black men. Tupac Shakur shares a collection of poems he wrote from 19 until his untimely death at 25 in The Rose That Grew from Concrete. He named the book after one of his poems, which focuses on life's resilience in adversity. On page 3 of the book Tupac says “Proving nature’s laws wrong, I learned to walk without having feet. Funny it seems, but by keeping his dreams, he learned to breathe fresh air.” He tells a tale of learning to flourish in this world by keeping his …show more content…

I feel that this book, "A Rose That Grew from Concrete," along with the movies and writings Tupac left behind at the young age of 25, should put him in the conversation of one of America's most significant artists of all time. I still play his music today. Tupac Shakur's inner life is revealed in a unique way that goes beyond what is commonly perceived to be his public persona, which is that of a rapper and actor, and gives us a glimpse into his inner life other than what is commonly perceived. He can demonstrate his resilience, empathy, and unwavering commitment when speaking out against injustices in his poetry, which is one of the key ways he can show his resilience, compassion, and dedication. As a result of the powerful words he penned, and despite the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, his legacy will continue to live on through the generations he inspires. Tupac was truly a rose that grew from the concrete. At the end of the book, it is evident that Tupac's identity and influence on the world will never be forgotten in the centuries to come and that the legacy he has left behind will endure for
