An area I have a particular interest in, is the area of childcare. There is something particularly unique about a child 's innocence and unconditional love. They are completely oblivious to the world 's issues and only see the good in others. No matter how hard we look, these qualities are hard to find. Sometimes we even forget that they still exist in our world. I have had the privilege of aiding my mother in my school 's childcare center for the past two years. Because of the way my school runs, I sometimes have a free class period to spend there. There is nothing like being able to take a break from school and all it entails to spend with young children. I believe being in the presence of children has shaped who I am today. I have a tendency to worry about little things and over think the endless outcomes of my decisions. To watch life through a child 's eyes has given me a new perspective. You can experience life with stress and worry, or you can choose not to. Attention to detail, a quality I possess, is a blessing and a curse. It 's a blessing in a sense that I 'll know exactly what to get my sister for Christmas each year, but a curse because a little comment or even a slight facial expression someone could give me could occupy my thoughts for the rest of the day. Being around children has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things in life but to not let them take too much of my attention. When I do experience motherhood in its full glory, I may have a completely different way of thinking. There is much joy in parenting, but there is also great responsibility. I can 't know for sure what that will be like until it happens, but I hope I will still have this essay on file when it does. I may need a reminder of how my 17-year-old self saw things, just like how I sometimes need a reminder of how children see things.
