Thank you for selecting me to be your campaign manager. Despite the short time until the elections, I believe that we can raise you a minimum of five percentage points to put you ahead of the other candidate. My proposal is to use the propaganda strategies of glittering generalities, negative attack ads, and stacking the deck. To start off this two week campaign, we should invest $100,000 on the strategy of glittering generalities. This strategy uses a “catch phrase.” The phrase should appeal to people’s emotion, but should also be vague enough that people can interpret it in their own way. This technique is the opposite of a negative attack ad because it is focused primarily on you and expresses only positive facts about you. This technique was used in 1984 by Ronald Reagan who won the election. Reagan paid for a television ad that talked of the low interest rates and low inflation that allows couples to buy affordable houses. This ad painted Ronald Reagan as a positive influence on America and effectively got voters to elect him (Doc B). We should invest the most money on this technique because it is the most informative, effective, and ethical technique. If stacking the deck is used correctly, it informs the public of what positive things you have done in your career such as promoting education and improving health care. It also points the public in a direction for research, which will get them learning more about your policies. By getting them to research your policies, this ad becomes effective. Your policies are agreeable and your past positive policies will get you support and votes. The ad attacks no one and so it is considered ethical.
