Americans should begin to think about their health because health issues don’t just happen in a blink of an eye. They begin early in life and continue to grow and are more noticeable throughout life. There are five reasons why one should begin to reconsider the food they eat and think about why being educated in fast food items is important. The first reason is, fast food owners promote some foods as a healthy alternative, but some of the foods contain added sugars and fats which defeat the purpose of calling them healthy alternatives. Some customers try to incorporate healthy entrees and side options into their meals as a way to provide a flexible diet which allows them to still enjoy fast food options. In our minds, we imagine fast food restaurants to only sell unhealthy fattening foods but that shouldn’t always be the case. McDonald’s often serves healthy options, but they mislead customers into thinking these healthy options are better for them than a burger. For example, McDonalds’ yogurt parfait with granola looks as though it’s a healthier option, but it doesn’t provide the necessary protein, fiber, and sugars as one would expect. A yogurt parfait contains about 150 calories and only a few nutrients needed to keep the body going. One would expect the sugar contents to be low and contain only the sugars from the fruits and low-fat yogurt, but this contains more added sugar and less nutritional benefits. Not only does one become mislead about a healthy side dish, some customers also unintentionally order other sides thinking it’s a better substitute (Chandon 302). This happens quite frequently and it doesn’t only happen at McDonald’s. Fast Food restaurants have swooped in on this act as a means to grab the attention of customers who seek healthier dishes when eating out. This ploy misleads customers who unknowingly buy these so-called “healthy”
