Social Media in the Classroom “Forty-one percent of college level instructors use social media as a teaching tool and 30% of instructors use social media as a communication tool with their students” (Educational 1). Many colleges use social media on the daily. As Chromey stated, social media isn’t always used in the everyday class, but it is also as a form of communication. Many of the teachers are able to communicate with their students through social media, at the college level, and they find it successful. Students should be used to using social media in the classroom because when they get to college, they’ll be better prepared. Kathy Cook, dean of education technology at University of Phoenix College of Education said,“For teachers to stay current, keep students engaged and promote learning, it is important for teachers to acknowledge the influence of social media and understand how to use it to the benefit of their students [...]” (Bolkan). A high school’s job is to prepare a kid for college. If many colleges are using social media, then high schools need to put social media in the classroom to prepare them for college. Not only are high schools using social media in the classroom, but colleges are also using social media in the classroom. College advisors believe that teachers should take advantage of the fact that students are engaged when social media is used in the classroom. St. Dominic should use social media in the classroom because it is found to engage kids in class, and it will also prepare the students for college, where social media will be used in the classroom. Leitch, a teacher at Ladue High School, said, “At Ladue Horton Watkins High School in St. Louis, Missouri, my broadcast technology, multimedia and film class
