During World War 1 the allies and the enemy's used lots of newly invented technology that gave both sides advantages during the war. This includes technology and weapons still used in warfare to this day. This includes tanks, deadly poison gases and recording devices.

Technology
Tanks were not invented during WW1 and were actually used as early as the 1890s. Though tanks became a big interest during The Great War. This was because of the installment of trenches.

The tanks were equipped with caterpillar tracks. The tracks were made to trenches as wide as 8 feet. They had maxim type or Lewis guns. They were armor plated which did not allow bullet penetration. Only specially made whens and ammunitions could penetrate the armour.
WW1 tanks were very simple. The first tanks made and released by the British could not exceed the speed of 4 miles an hour. This was onl y the start. Tanks were still very important since they allowed soldiers to go across the battlefield without being wounded.
Poison gas was implemented during The Great War as well. Gas was popular on both sides of the war. The gas had devastating results, well sometimes.
There was 5 types of gases used in WW1. Tear gas, chlorine gas, phosgene gas, mustard gas, Lewisite.

Tanks were so popular against the Allies that by 1918 the British and France had produced 6,506 tanks and the Germans had only about 20 produced. Though the Germans were quickly learnt how to deal with the tanks. They used anti-tank guns. By the Battle of Amiens in 1918, the Germans had destroyed 72% of all of the Allies tanks in just 4 days. 6 days before The Great War had ended, the British Tank Corps had only 8 tanks left. Though after the success of the Battle of Flers, during the Battle of Somme there was little success with the tanks by the Allies.
