Moreover, female athletes have been facing an unfair coverage on the media. That women sports are underrepresented on the media is still happening. In most popular sport websites like Yahoo! Sport, ESPN, CBSSports, NBC Sports, etc., man sports always receive far more media coverage
People used strong effort to keep women’s sports limited when they wanted to be competitive; that wouldn’t last long (Bell). Women took part in the Olympics of 1900 for the first time. Only 22 women competed and were permitted to participate in golf and tennis (Feminist Majority Foundation). Later in the 1920’s a very stereotypical view was developed towards women and their desire to participate in sports. Their participation became “unfeminine” and “selfish”, and not to mention the fact that all athletic women were accused of lesbianism (Bell).
Women should be allowed to play on boys sports teams because they are just as athletic as boys. First, Jackie Joyner-Kersee is known to be the First Lady of American athletics. She competed in four Olympic Games for the United States from 1984 to 1996, earning medals in both the women’s long jump and the women’s heptathon. When all was said and done, Joyner-Kersee earned three golds, one silver, and two bronze medals(Capatides).
I sadly have to say womens athletics are also often disregarded. For example, the now-famous tennis match between tennis Hall of Famers Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs shows the way women's sports are viewed throughout our society. King's goal was to close the pay gap between her and her colleagues because there was a great difference in between their salaries. Billie Jean King felt that “women's sports were still generally treated as a novelty,” (Ott 2). She needed to beat Riggs in order to demonstrate that she is not inferior to men.
Women are equally or if anything more talented in the same sports as men are . Like in gymnastics or water polo women have earned their stripes in the Olympics. And an example is each year women are getting stronger and faster and are slowly closing the gap between the male and female barrier. Like females are running faster times in track and field getting closer to male times in a lot of events. So discrimination shouldn’t be a problem anymore
Women may lack confidence due to a lack of sporting opportunities or are scared of getting hurt. This proves that men are more confident and are willing to take risks. Which makes the game more interesting, while women's sports may not be as interesting due to cautious plays. This shows that women should not receive and get the same support as
Female athletes have just begun to be seen equal as male athletes and many men and women have fought for equality throughout sports. According to Columbia University, “As a result, by paying women lower wages based on revenue, leagues, teams, and governing organizations are discriminating against women athletes and coaches based on consumer preferences, thereby potentially violating the Equal Pay Act.” The Equal Pay Act protects against wage discrimination based on sex, (“Equal Pay for Equal Work”). Without paying female athletes it is not only a violation to the Equal Pay Act but is also a violation to many others. Female athletes have fought for many years to just be able to play sports and should not have to stop at just that.
The women are bringing more revenue and more titles than the men, they maybe even better than Men’s Team. I feel very strongly about this topic because since the time women could work a job they have always been treated differently whether they could handle just as much work as the men or if they are being payed equally for the work they do. Women’s rights are just as important as Men’s. There is a lot of things that women do for this country and not just in sports. We have women fighting for us overseas risking their lives so that we can prospered in
I think boys and girls should be able to play the same sports. Some girls are good at them some aren’t some boys are good some are not. Boys and Girls play similar sports like baseball and softball. Some people are good some are not but i think they should get to play the same sport because there's always gonna be someone girl or boy there's always a not very good player.
Is abortion murder? If one answers yes to this question, one would most likely also support the complete and utter outlawing of abortion within the United States. But why would anyone want to outlaw abortion, you may wonder. The answer, or part of the answer, is that one believes abortion may harm a woman’s fertility, increase their risk of developing cancer, and cause harm to their mental health in some way, shape or form. But what would happen if abortion was outlawed, you may also wonder.
Sports should not be based on whether you are more interested in girls or guys sports; it should be based on which sport brings in more revenue and has the most participation
I do believe that they should be able to be on the same team without the feeling of others disapproving of their choice. With that being said, I think we should make sports more open to both genders. Such as making a boys and girls volleyball team or a football team that allows both boys and girls to join. I know a change like that may not happen for a while, but why not start trying
Gender Inequality in sports is an issue as old as sport itself. I choose this topic because we as a society seem to sweep it under the rug time after time. Women in sports however, try to address the issue only to have it go on deaf ears, leaving them to continue in the sport hoping something will change. Over the last few decades, strides have been made, but he sport remains an institution dominated by men. These women, whether they are in sport or in the business world, want a fair chance to be on the same level as their male counterparts.
Should men and women compete against each other in sport? In today’s modern society it is accepted that gender equality is aspired to in all areas of life. It is agreed that women should be paid the same wage as men, given the same job opportunities and have the same laws applied to them.
“Female discrimination in sports is a common occurrence all around the world, women are seen as less than males.” (Ladrea) Equality in sports is unequal. In the 1800 women got very little attention and did not get the opportunity to play in any sport in America and all around the world. Men could go and try out for different sports teams and workout but for women they were only allowed to stay home to cook and clean. There were some events women could participate in but it could not be competitive, it was focused on getting active and staying active.
