In simple terms, fast food is food that is prepared quickly and served, often at a chain of restaurants, and usually is known to be less nutritious and less expensive. While fast food is always a go-to on a road trip, it's also to blame for America being the 10th most obese country in the world. About 42% of Americans are obese. That's close to every other person being obese. Is this a problem with the e-mail? Fast food is a part of American life. "In 2000, they (Americans) spent more than $110 billion (on fast food). Americans now spend more money on fast food than on higher education, personal computers, computer software, or new cars. YES! That is a good idea! In a study shown in Source D, 76% of Americans in 2013 agreed that fast food is not too good for you or not good at all for you. Regardless of this knowledge, in that same year, only 4% of Americans claim to never go to any fast food places. So why do people go if it's unhealthy? Because it's inexpensive and easy to use. The reason many people are obese from fast food is because it's much cheaper than buying food at the grocery store. To quote Source A "When it comes to food access, the focus should be on poverty, not grocery store location." The argument here parallels that of the Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen, who pointed out that the cause of starvation and death in famines is seldom a physical lack of sufficient food, but is instead the collapse of the incomes of the poor." It's not everyone's choice to go and get fast food, but it may be their only option. How can this problem be fixed? Governments should be focusing on raising household incomes in areas all across the country, rather than trying to distribute healthier options.
