Harry Truman once said, “America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” In today’s society, we have strayed away from those building principles that laid the path for America. The time of rebuilding for the United States was during the Great Depression and the two world wars. Through those times of distress, Americans found a way to persevere and get ourselves out of it. We didn’t give up and expect someone else to do it for us. Americans created jobs and essentially united as a whole to conquer whatever task was at hand. The society we have created now has gone to the complete extreme of this. Now, we don’t have as many “blue-collard” minded people. More …show more content…
Today, many teens and young adults are rebellious and sometimes become very disrespectful against those in power. We saw this transformation during the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 70s. People began to resist those in charge and question the decisions made by our government. Instead of uniting as one unit and working together, we became more concerned about the individual gain instead of working for the improvement as a whole. This nation has bounced back from so many situations where our backs were against the wall, that would shouldn’t let fighting amongst ourselves be our own default. From the moment we set sail towards a new life after leaving Great Britain, we have remained true to ourselves. While times have changed since our founding fathers set the founding principles, we are still the United States of America. When our freedom is being threatened, we fight to keep it here. As a nation built on the idea of freedom, we must do whatever we can to protect us and what rights we have. Other nations have living conditions and regulations that are far worse than we could even imagine. That is something that we, as Americans, often forget about. We are fortunate to live in a country that has created the many freedoms that we can express. Our ancestors didn’t experience the hardships they encountered for the later generations to mess it all up. When Americans are against one another no goal can be accomplished. In life, it can often be seen as a better situation when the task has been divided amongst others. If we continue the trend of being against one another, not working, or fighting those who try to help us, we will be nothing. We will be our own default as a
