A Great Education A great education starts at home. A major issue is occuring in our day and time, and we are not doing a single thing about it; the future of American educational success is slowly but surely decreasing. The most obvious question might arise, why is American education failing? Due to the major problems America faces daily, Americans tend to not forget about the major problem for the kids, American education failure, which is the issues the student undergoes at home. One of the main thing that starts with family for a student should be his two parents, his mother and his father. Now let us take a look at how things would differ with kids who only have one parent, divorced parents, or since we are in reality, dead parents. In the United States about 69% of children living under the age of 18 live with two parents, meaning 31% of kids either have one or even no parents (Porter). This is shameful that 31% of of our 83 million students enrolled in school in the United States have to face this problem (Bauman and Davis 2). Kids without or with one parent have a tendency to not progress with their education as earnestly as a student with both parents. It is shown that “young adults who spent time living in single-parent families had completed 1.32 fewer years of schooling than their peers from two-parent families, according to a paper published last week in the academic journal Education Next” (Mulhere). It is very clear on why these kids are not as successful as kids with both parents, they are at a disadvantage.
