Friar Lawrence guilty of wrongful death? Friar Lawrence is not guilty of wrongful death. He committed no serious crimes, and was not responsible for the tragedies committed by Romeo and Juliet. For it was Romeo who drank the poison, and it was Juliet who forced the dagger through her abdomen. Friar Lawrence did not know Juliet was going to turn the knife on herself after realising Romeo was dead. If he had know he would’ve stopped her. Friar Lawrence did do some questionable things for example he did marry Romeo and Juliet without either family’s permission. He gave Juliet the potion that simulated death, and made a plan to get them out of the city. The first reason proving Friar Lawrence’s innocence is Juliet’s father rushed the marriage.
