A well­rounded education is an essential part of an everyday student’s life. Part of a well­rounded education is achieving good grades as well as achieving a high test score. Although students may receive a quality education and earn good grades in their classes, their standardized test scores do not always reflect their hard work. Standardized tests, such as the ACT or SAT, were implemented in 1905 by a man named Alfred Binet. These tests were originally designed to measure a student’s overall intelligence. Today, these tests are used to measure students’ learning abilities and the level of success in individual schools in comparison with other students from around the nation. While GPA is still a factor in accepting students into college, colleges focus heavily on ACT and SAT scores. Colleges prefer to accept students based on their standardized test scores because the colleges believe that a standardized test is the best way to measure a student’s academic level. Tania Garcia is the epitome of a truly intelligent student who does not do well on standardized tests: “My standardized test scores are disappointing.
