John F. Kennedy is one of the presidents that is remembered the most. Despite his short time in office, he did great things. These things making him stand out. John F. Kennedy was one of the most memorable presidents because of the cuban missile crisis, the civil rights legislation , and his assassination. To begin with, John F. Kennedy is remembered for his actions during the Cuban missile crisis. In October 1962, there were photographs taken in Cuba; this led to an investigation that showed that the Soviet Union was building missiles in Cuba. When Kennedy came in to office one of the first things he got involve in was the Cuban missile crisis "Kennedy permitted a band of Cuban exiles, already armed and trained, to invade their homeland" (The White House). This was done in attempt to overthrow the leader Fidel Castro out of Cuba. Kennedy was involve in a civil rights movement that made him stand out. In June 11, 1963 John F. Kennedy announced to the American people that he would be sending a civil rights bill to congress. In the bill it addressed that hotels, restaurants, theaters, restaurants, and stores would not be allowed to racial segregate agains others. He also made racial discrimination illegal. The modern civil rights movement started with the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama. This eventually led to the U.S. Supreme court ruling that the Alabama's laws segregating buses were illegal. Kennedy delivered a speech a Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. In his speech, he mentioned the movement and the struggle for equal rights. He also mentioned the difficulty of these problems, and he also mentioned the importance of assuring all Americans thier rights under the law. In August 1963, The Freedom march led to a very important step in the the Civil Rights Act which was passed in July 2, 1964 (The White
