He builds his argument by first acknowledging the importance of technology and then explaining why it cannot replace human memory. . Willingham provides scientific evidence and real-life examples to support his claim, making a compelling case for the value of memorization in our ever-changing world.
The author, Sandra Cisneros, wrote the novel, the house on mango street. This novel focuses on Esperanza, the main character. Esperanza faces poverty and segregation throughout her childhood, but she doesn't understand. How reliable are the two models or theories of the cognitive process of memory, “|…|the process of maintaining information over time” (Matlin, 2005) , known as the multistore model (MSM) and the levels of processing model (LOP)? In a recent fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) study over the past decade, researchers found that the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex have decreased in activity. Introduction According to information processing model, short term memory has a limited capacity to hold information (Atkinson & Shriffin, 1968). The span of short term memory is said to be limited to about seven items (+2) (Miller, 1956 as cited in Terry, 2000). Short-term memory is also an active memory where we do our active memory processing (Lefrancois, 2000). For this reason, several researches have called the short term memory the working memory store (Gordon, 1989).
Memory is the ability of our brain to encode, store, retain and recall information and past experiences in the brain. According to Schater and Tulving (as cited in 2001), state that memory can be defined by its brain mechanism, the kind of information it processes, and the principle of its operation. Memory is what we remember and the knowledge gives human ability to learn from the past. It is also the process where we adapt the knowledge that we learned and can change our behaviour.
