Unfair Trial:The People vs. OJ Simpson The United States of America, supposedly land of the free and home of the brave. This is somewhat true in some sense but there is one aspect of the US that seems to lack this quote, fair trial. What is a fair trial you may ask. “Fair trial is the privilege to a reasonable trial is a crucial shield to guarantee that people are shielded from unlawful or subjective hardship of their human rights and opportunities, above all of the privilege to freedom and security of individual.” (Langford 1) Many people are blinded by the quote “land of the free and home of the brave” and don’t see how corrupt our court systems are and many cases show this instance for example the People vs. OJ Simpson. Many people that heard of or attended his trial were utterly shocked of his conviction and the way it played out, but there was also those few who had a smirk on their face as he was put in prison for 33 years and had to served 9 without parole. First let's go over the basics of his trial and how it played out. The main reason this trial was unfair is the evidence the court had to try and prove that OJ was guilty, they basically didn’t any legitimate evidence. "June 5, 1995, in court, Simpson tries on a pair of calfskin gloves associated with the case, and says they don't fit."(OJ Fast Facts 1) “Also on October 23, 1996 a civil trial starts in a wrongful death suit brought against OJ by the victims families.”(OJ Fast Facts 1) This shows much unfairness against OJ because the case hadn’t even been figured to be guilty and they considered and death suit against OJ. Also between OJ being arrested and him actually showing up in trial to testify was a time period of 3-6 months, that means he had to stay in jail 3-6 months before his trial even began. This is also where the Declaration of Independence (the US Constitution) makes its home and it is suppose to give American citizens there life, liberty, and prosperity. For example the right to a fair trial, you must have strong enough evidence to convict a suspect until then they are innocent until proven guilty. This is a right clearly stated in the Declaration of Independence but however it is not followed hardly at all considering many trials end with putting the people in jail for no reason and ending their chance at good life. That's all politics are worried about these days is control and they do a good job at it since there is not enough people that pay attention to this and try and stop it. So the reason that the right to a fair trial is invalid is that you can look out through history for one African Americans rarely ever win any trials this shows racism, most times there isn’t enough evidence to convict a person in the case of OJ Simpson for instance, and it is unfair to not give a citizen his or her fair trial after they have been held for more than a day. First racism, if the courtroom was really fair then there wouldn’t be any convictions just based on skin color or because you just don’t like that person and
