The Civil War was necessary in the fact that without it, slavery would most likely not have been abolished, as the main cause of the war was that the president didn’t want to let any new states legalize slavery. The Southern States argued they were simply defending states’ rights while the North argued that they were simply trying to do the morally right thing. The fact that the South fought back against the issue of slavery this heavily and barely cared about other changes the federal government made nationwide implies that they cared less for states’ rights and more for the issue of slavery, implying that had the war not been fought, slavery would have continued, so the war was necessary in that regard.
