The Civil War was fought due to irreconcilable differences between the free (northern states) and slave states (southern states) over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the
The civil war led to the ratification of the thirteenth amendment. A reason the war was caused is that southern states did not want to give up slavery. Slavery was a source of cheap labor back then, so they thought that their way of life would end if slavery was abolished. In return they
One of the biggest reasons for the civil war was slavery. In document 3 Hinton Helper talks about how slavery was legal in Southern states and was an essential part of the Southern economy. Slaves were often considered property rather than human beings and were forced into horrible treatment. On the
I personally think that the people who profess that the Civil War was only fought about slavery have not read their history books. I really am glad that slavery was abolished, but I don't think it should be glorified as being the sole reason the Civil War was fought. There are so many more issues that people were intensely passionate about at the time. Slavery was one of them, but it was not the primary cause of the war. The primary causes of the war were economics and states'
I believe that the Civil War was needed slavery completely ended after this change of goverment and the African Americans were
The Civil War was first recognized as being a war to preserve the Union. However slavery was always a part of it from the beginning. After diverse events the war turned into a war to abolish slavery. The Civil War initiated as a war to preserve the Union, but traces of slavery were always seen in it. The Civil War turned into a war to abolish slavery because of two main events.
The Civil War was a terrible tragedy that affected millions of people, but helped toward the abolition of slavery. Compromises over slavery failed, huge disagreements over slavery developed, and the people were in outrage in both the North and South. Slavery was the main reason for sectionalism and the outrage over it. The nation was divided on the subject. Ultimately, sectionalism slavery were the main reasons for the Civil War.
To start, The Civil war was a pivotal moment in American history. The civil war continues to shape our nation to this day. Although the war had many causes, the issue of slavery was the biggest reason for the civil war. The north and the south had different viewpoints on slavery. These different perspectives led to the American civil war.
The Civil War had also been fought over what should the states that should be able to own slaves or not to own slaves that were in slavery. In which it had also been in the time that was when Abraham Lincoln had been trying to create the Reconstruction. The Reconstruction also had made to be redressed in the inequities of slavery, which had made the eleven southern states wanting to secede from the Union. At the Union level it had hoped to be creating new laws and new constitutional amendments that would be altering the federal system and the American citizenship. Which had made the Republicans being able to convince that of former slaves should be earned the equal rights that had been required in the south readmission to the Union.
The main reason for Civil War was slavery, states’ rights, and sectionalism. North and South fought in the civil war because they both had different ideologies and beliefs over human’s rights and liberty as well as local and regional interests were different. The institutions of slavery go beyond economic and political differences because South and North were so different in terms of ideologies-cultural, economic and political that they just couldn’t coexist together. In the 1840s the religion has played an important role in separating north and south for example, ‘Methodists,’ ‘Presbyterians’ and Baptists had cracked into two regions because of their view over those who owned a slave. As southern part planned to develop the economic improvement
I agree with the statement: Slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil war, because some politicians wanted to abolish slavery in fear of the separation of the Union, also citizens in the northern states also were affected by slavery, and slavery also affected other races other that the blacks and the whites. The issue of slavery became a priority of the united states congress and thus the civil war began. The fear of the separation of the union was in the minds of many of the northern congressmen. For example in John C. Calhoun states in document A, “The agitation of the subject of slavery would, if not prevented by some timely and effective measure, end in disunion.”
Slavery was the primary cause of the Civil War. It may not be completely responsible, nevertheless most of the other reasons the Civil War broke out were caused by the disagreements on slavery. For instance, the Confederacy breaking away from the Union may be a big part, if not entirely the reason the Civil War happened, but this was mostly a result of the South and North holding entirely different opinions on the topic of slavery. Overall, slavery caused a chain reaction that led to one of the bloodiest wars in the history of the United States. However, even now, there was almost nothing that could have prevented the war from happening, making the Civil War a necessary, blood soaked, chain of events forever engraved in our nation’s history.
It is completely true to say that slavery was the cause of the civil war. There were other factors that added on to this as in religion, people’s economic statuses and power, but the main component of it all was slavery. It is clear that enslaving people is completely wrong, but it’s obvious a lot of southerners decided to do otherwise. In the south, the primary source of income stemmed from agricultural work.
After the efforts to gain independence from Britain and the creation of the United States of America, eighty years later this union was not so united. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, it was the first time that Americans fought Americans. Among many reasons, the Civil War is known to be a result of the arguments over the delineation of the States’ Rights or the presidential election of Abraham Lincoln. In actuality, the Civil War, the most deadly war in American history, was due to disputes over slavery in the American territories. Therefore, the Civil War was inevitable because of the consequences that occurred one being slavery.
In the midst of the 1800’s, the United States were not very “united” at all. There was a constant question that would get passed on president-to-president without being properly answered. The Civil War was destined to happen, but it took the split moral standards of a country to bring the war to fruition. The Civil War was a easily the most important, yet unnecessary war. I believe the Civil War had to happen for the United States to be as strong as it is today.
