In the novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the term Great fits Gatsby as a character very well as he demonstrates his selflessness, determination, generosity, and hopefulness in greater magnitude than his negative qualities. To begin, the term “great” must first be defined. As defined by Oxford Languages, the word “Great” means either “of an extent, amount, or intensity considerably above the normal or average” or “of ability, quality, or eminence considerably above the normal or average.” Both of these definitions highlight that the word “great” simply means considerably above the normal or average.
