College is a time for students to break out of their comfort zone and start discovering who they are. This means they have to make tough decisions, and mom and dad aren’t their by their side to help them.College students have a lot on their plates, with all the stress from school, studying, work, friends, and relationships. Because college students make poor decisions, they can 't control their weight, they abuse alcohol, and the development of eating disorders occur.
First the “Freshman 15” is a term that is well-known throughout college campuses everywhere. This term refers to the weight that most students put on during their first year of college. Although this term is widely known, it is incorrect. Most freshmen do gain weight during their first year, but only around 2.4 to 3.5 pounds. Actually the “15” on average isn’t even met throughout a student’s full time at college. It is shown that over the entire four years’ men only gain approx. 13lbs and women only gain 9lbs. (Frank T) These weight gains are highly contributed to two factors, heavy drinking and working. These gains however, are avoidable. If you do notice a little “flab” around your mid-section, with some knowledge and perseverance, you can safely get rid of it.

This is a huge problem on college campuses everywhere. Binge drinking has become an epidemic on college campuses everywhere. Even worse than that “Extreme Drinking” has become very popular for students who are turning 21. This means that they are consuming 8 more drinks throughout a week than normal. (College Drinking) Drinking causes around 1400 deaths every year for students between the ages of 18 to 24. On top of this alcohol consumption is definitely related to weight gain. If drinking alcohol, do so in moderation and beware of all warning signs of alcohol
