Hello! I’m Yoobin and today, I’m going to explain why Julius Caesar was ambitious and insightful. I prepared my presentation with solid and reliable sources which are shown now on the screen. To accurately convey my assertion I found what those two words mean in Cambridge Dictionary. Ambitious mean is “having a strong wish to be successful, powerful, or rich” (Cambridge Dictionary). Insightful mean is “a clear, deep, and sometimes sudden understanding of a complicated problem or situation” (Cambridge Dictionary). He started to reconstruct Carthage, an ancient capital city that had been destroyed by Rome during the Punic War, in 49 B.C. We can see that Caesar cared about Rome and understood the need to build an empire in order to develop. Due to the Civil War, Rome was in financial crisis. Caesar made a policy that no one could hold more than 60,000 seterces in cash, thereby restricting only a few people to hold most of the wealth. We can assume that he knew the problems within Rome and policies needed for citizens. However, the most famous reformation would be the Julian Calendar. Roman calendar was not accurate because it only had 355 days per year. Every year, season started differently. When Caesar invaded to Egypt, he learnt about the Egyptian calendar - the one systematized by sun. He took the idea and made the Julian Calendar, fixing 355 days to 365 days. The Julian Calendar was widely used throughout Europe until the end of 16th century. From these examples, we can assume that Caesar cared about citizens, society and culture and was insightful because he identified the problems and created solutions for
