My paper is going to be about Wild Bill’s life as a gunfighter and his gambling addiction. He was a good gunfighter, but had a problem with gambling. I’ll be talking about what people thought about him. How he gambled and about how he was feared. I'll also talk about what led him to be a gunfighter. When he was born, and when he died. Wild Bill was born in Troy Grove, Illinois, on May 27, 1837. Hickok was born into a family with 5 children. Wild Bill wanted to abolish slavery he joined a group of quakers at a young age. Hickok's family had a secret cellar to hide slaves. At a young age Wild Bill was already good at shooting and hunted for the family. He was a master gunfighter, killer of men, scout of the wilderness, yet he eagerly chased frogs with a little girl. In September of 1867 Wild Bill was in one of the worst shootouts in history. When a ruffian named Samuel Strawhun decided to shoot everyone in a saloon. Hickok told him to stop causing trouble, when Samuel went for his pistol Wild Bill plainly shot him in the head, and then shot another man during his duty. Later five cavalrymen attacked Hickok but he killed three of them and the other got away he wasn't wanted by the army so it's said it was self-defense. Hickok was sworn into being a Marshal in Abilene Kansas, a rowdy cowtown that hickok tamed after being there he protected the weak and helpless, and even changed the gambling when a man got to drunk he would end the game so the drunken man could save his money.
