William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire England. Although there are no records of his birth the Church of Holy Trinity has documents stating when he was baptized. Usually, the church baptizes babies three days after their birth. This has led scholars to believe that his birthday was on the 23. His father was John Shakespeare and his mother was Mary Aden. He was the third of eight children. As a young child it is believed that he attended and was educated at the King’s New School in Stratford from 1571 to 1577. In 1599 William and his business partners built a theater on the south side of the Thames River. They called the theater the Globe. In 1605 he purchased leases for a real estate near Stratford for 440 pounds. Buying the property doubled in value and earned him 60 pounds per year. This made Shakespeare not only a playwright, but he was also a smart entrepreneur. He knew how to handle business; Thus, he was very successful. Scholars believe these investments gave him time to write his plays without being interrupted. Shakespeare not only was very good with using words, but he created his own style of writing and by doing so impacted to English language forever. He wrote his early plays in the conventional style using elaborate metaphors and rhetorical phrases. William also primarily used a metrical pattern consisting of lines that were unrhymed, and used the iambic pentameter. The iambic pentameter is the way of writing using only ten syllables in each line. This type of writing may seem simple, but it’s actually very challenging. Shakespeare created new words by changing nouns into verbs and verbs into adjectives. He connected words that never before got used together.
