William Shakespeare grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, but later moved to London where he became an actor and built a theatre called the Globe that was located on the Thames River. This would become a place where his well-known works would be performed. In order for him to support his love for writing and have uninterrupted time creating his plays, he purchased leases of real estate which became profitable. He wrote around 38 plays, some of which are well known and famous, such as Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. He was considered one of the best actors, poets, and playwrights during the Elizabethan time period because his plays were well-written on the major theme of true love.

This play, a tragedy, focused on two young lovers that had a hard time with their relationship due to their family’s disapproval. This conflict led to the early death of these lovers. According to the Progressive Writers Association Secretary Asim Shujjie: “ William Shakespeare was a top poet and playwright and the characters that he created could not be removed from English literature history.” He continued, “ his characters Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth were the greatest ever.” (Shakespeare’s Life Remembered) The tragedies featuring these great names focus on moral failures that often define the twisting and turning plots that end up destroying the hero and those he loves. Hamlet’s character was one of betrayal and failure and the famous speech “To be, or not to be” is a meditative soliloquy that is one of the most well known things in the play. In 1595 Romeo and Juliet was first performed at the Globe, and just that first performance made it a hit. (pbs.org) It was very popular because it exhibited true love and life lessons. According to Robert McCrum “Shakespeare’s work became a Bible to Americans that they treasured.” (William Shakespeare: A Quintessentially American Author.) His influence has prompted others to re-perform and re-interpret his works in diverse culture and political contexts. (Biography.com) I feel that Shakespeare’s unique way of presenting history, comedies, and true love gives people something they can relate to and helps bring their dreams or fantasies to life.What I think influences people the most about his works is that the characters are so relatable. He is one of the most successful writers in my opinion and is able to get a point across by the end of his works. There are life lessons to be learned by all who read his
